PB or Polybutylene Plumbing

During the years spanning from 1978 through 1995, Polybutylene Plumbing experienced a surge in popularity that revolutionized the plumbing industry. This innovative piping material offered a significant reduction in the amount of time required to complete plumbing tasks, making them faster and more affordable. Additionally, its flexibility made it easier to manipulate and more forgiving for those working with it. At the time of its introduction, experts believed it to be the best plumbing option available due to its versatility.

However, as time progressed, it became apparent that the inside of the plumbing was deteriorating, which led to leaks that were often concealed within walls or flooring. While some manufacturers claim that most leaks occur at joints and unions due to improper installation, class-action lawsuits have resulted in successful payouts to homeowners of up to $1 billion, according to InterNACHI. 

Despite its problematic nature, Polybutylene Plumbing continued to function well for many years and paved the way for better products to come. However, it is in the best interest of homeowners to replace PB 2110 with PEX or a similar option. Leaks are never desirable, unless, of course, you are a plumber looking for work. It is essential to consider the long-term implications of using Polybutylene Plumbing and to opt for newer, more reliable piping materials that will help prevent leaks and offer greater peace of mind.

After conducting extensive research, I recommend a MERV 11 filter for your home, as it effectively traps large dust particles without limiting suction power. It's important to remember that your home is not a hospital and does not require the same level of air filtration. If your suction power is limited, it can affect the blower and make your home less comfortable in every room. Regularly changing your air filter is crucial in keeping your air handler in tip-top shape. I set an alarm on my phone to change mine out so I don't forget.
