Pride pt 2 This was the movement of PRIDE!

In the past, I, Dirk, used to walk in the Pride parade and celebrate this month with my gay and lesbian friends. Now as a Christ follower, I just preach the truth and love others no matter what sexuality they happen to be. We cannot win people to Christ by pointing fingers and blaming others for the sinful acts that they do, while we have our own sinful acts that we need to deal with. Treat others as we want to be treated. Matthew 7:12

The term "pride" often carries negative connotations, but it's interesting to note that an entire month is dedicated to celebrating PRIDE. However, many people may need to learn the origins of this Pride Month.

It was established in 1970 to commemorate the Stonewall Inn Riots, and the name "Pride" was chosen as a slogan to represent the event. The first march was a peaceful gathering with no dress code, where individuals were free to express their sexuality pridefully without fear of judgment. The word Pride means to have a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with who one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired. It's worth noting that there are different types of pride, including dignity, superiority, and arrogance, each with its own distinct mental qualities. Two experimental studies have shown that these types of satisfaction (or pride) can be conveyed through various facial expressions and postures.

The Biblical point of view:

Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” Proverbs 16:5 “The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.” Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

These are the 6 reasons for pride:

  • A Desire to Be God (Isaiah 14:13-14)

  • Moral Self-Righteousness (Luke 18:11)

  • Confidence in One's Accomplishments (Daniel 4:28-37)

  • Ambition for Prominence (Mark 10:35-45)

  • Lack of Teachability (Hebrews 13:17)

  • Worldly (1 John 2:16)
